Real life is about the small things that make you smile, all the morning snuggles, funny faces, and the older kids helping the little ones. Your home or yard is the perfect backdrop to all of your favorite moments. And don’t forget about those four-legged family members. There are a so many details that make your family unique and that is worth capturing!
Your home is my absolute favorite place to capture your family. I know what you’re thinking “my house is too messy for pictures” ... Trust me, it isn’t! I’m not there to take photos of your stuff. I am there to capture your family connection.
In your home, the photo opportunities are endless, parents and kids seem more relaxed instantly. I see more of your individual personalities shine through. When you look at the images from your family photography session I want them to represent who you really are.
The photos I love the most from my crazy childhood aren’t the ones where everyone is perfectly posed at smiling at the camera with a solid color backdrop. The plain background photos look clean and crisp but they strip away history and personality. Those photos tell me nothing about the home I grew up in, what my room looked like, or the type of child I was because I had to sit perfectly still in a room I had never been in before.
The photos I love the most from my crazy childhood are the ones that show me how life really was and I love capturing that for others too. And as if that isn’t enough, I have a list full of more reasons! Here are my top 5 reasons why you should have a lifestyle photography session for your family memories:
1. No driving No rushing to get everyone out the door on time, you’re already there. Loading up the car and taking newborns, babies and toddlers anywhere can take a lot of time and a lot of effort so save some of that energy for the photos. Opting to have your family photographed at home cuts out the need to travel to the location, saving you precious time. You won’t be stuck in traffic, making it a more relaxed way start the session. I know Mom’s can also appreciate having a little more time to get ready. It doesn’t get much better than this!
2. More natural moments I don’t know about you, but when I look back over albums I simply gloss over the images where everyone is looking directly at the camera and giving their best fake smile. It’s the other photos that really grab my attention. And I think there is no better way than having it take place in your home or backyard or even another place that has meaning to your family. It’s a real, raw, and honest look at how your family looks right now.
3. Countless activities There are so many spaces inside and around your home, which makes it the perfect location to capture real, honest, and amazing photographs. Jumping on the bed, story time, baking cookies, playing a board game, playing tag in the backyard, or even sitting on the porch. You will never feel like you don’t know what to do. BONUS: Favorite foods are readily available to tame a hungry toddler and toilets are exactly where you need them, when you need them! Enough said.
4. More memories Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to look back at images from your first family home and see where it all began. I know that some of my favorite images are of my childhood home when I was growing up. Your children will love looking back on photos where they are in their old room playing with their toys. You will be able to stroll down memory lane as the photos bring back stories about each thing that is in the photograph!
5. More comfortable Locations in a public places can be full of other people walking around and stopping to watch what you are doing, so maybe you never feel completely comfortable. It’s easier to feel comfortable when you are in your own environment with less distractions.
It’s pretty simple, when you feel comfortable, you look comfortable on camera. There is no better place to be than in the comfort of your own home. It’s the place we can’t wait to get back to when we have been away on a trip. Everything you need is there, it is already a source of countless memories, so let’s make some more memories together.
